Still Waiting…

So Flannery Caroline has not shown up yet, despite her mother’s best pleadings. Apparently we’ve already got a stubborn kid on our hands. I was one buttheaded boy growing up, so it’s only just that God should return the favor in kind.

At any rate, Babywatch ‘08 continues with great anticipation. Hurry up little girl! We can’t wait to kiss and hold and love and rock out with you!

Iron Man & Imago Dei

I started a new series over at my workplace’s main site entitled Imago Dei. At it’s most basic, it’s a series based on looking at the interaction of art/media/culture and faith. My good buddy and coworker Joe Bauldoff (a graphic designer extraordinaire) did the series logo, as well as the artwork for the first article. I had a chance to see Iron Man at an advance screening on Tuesday…and let me tell you, it’s a blast of a film. I hope I can take April to see it this weekend.

It made my creative juices flow (scary thought, I know) and it spawned the idea of doing a series of Imago Dei. So if you so desire, check out the Iron Man article here. Just make sure to head back to the homepage and look for the first article in the rotating list to see more of Joe’s kickass work. And actually, stop by his blog and his portfolio to see more of his talent on display. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll wish you were as awesome as he is.

In other news, PunditKitchen is probably my new favorite site.

and now you can too.

Apparently this is some sort of internal Microsoft rah-rah rally the troops video about Vista and SP1. If this thing leaked out, how in the H do they expect us to trust their security for operating systems? And furthermore, I’m not even a fan of The Boss, but I know enough to know that this is a huge affront to him and his art. This just hurts my brain…

And this one makes three…

My third article in the Spiritual Disciplines series is up over at BillyGraham.org. This one focuses on spending time in the Bible, which is something, frankly, that I suck at. I’m trying during this time of covenant at Renovatus to get into a better and more consistent habit of being the Word, but it’s tough. God help me in my struggles.

The last article will hopefully be written and posted this week or the beginning of the next. It will focus on living life in community. Should be fun.

Fasting

The second part of my series on spiritual disciplines is now up at BillyGraham.org. This one deals with the question of fasting. For the Renovatus faithful, this won’t necessarily be anything new, but I spent some time wrestling anew with the concept of fasting and why we should be doing it. It’s definitely been convicting and stretching to write these pieces, as I’m constantly forced to acknowledge how far short I’m falling in my own walk. But I guess that intersection of my failure and God’s love is where the disciplines and grace meet. We’ll see…

The Man Hug

This is a thing of beauty and poetry in motion. Given all the manly grab-assing that occurs on Sundays, I think some of my comrades at Renovatus could use these helpful hints.

Waste Time Wisely

As most of my regular visitors know, The House of Hunt is usually the place for random hilarity, rapist’s wit, and other sundry nonsense. But today I have the pleasure of directing the attention to something a little more worthwhile. Jonathan’s sermons at Renovatus have really been challenging me lately, causing me to dig deeper into my walk with Jesus and examine how I use my time. The concept of spiritual disciplines in particular have given me a lot to chew on, whether it’s figuring out how to fast or setting aside time alone with God (something that continues to be a real struggle for me).

Combine that with my work as a writer/editor at the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and you’ve got some interesting crossover possibilities. And that’s exactly what happened at the beginning of this week. My senior editor asked me a week or so ago about article ideas for the main BG site…and I immediately thought about what I’ve been learning. I pitched the idea of doing a four-part series on spiritual disciplines and got Jonathan’s input and blessing on it (given that a lot of what I’m talking about comes straight from his sermons). My editor loved the concept and the first article was posted on Monday. You can check it out either on the BG homepage (it’s article No. 3) or you can hit it up directly here.

I’m pretty excited about it. I’ve gotten some good feedback so far, but I’m especially pumped about the opportunity to actually write something that will hopefully be encouraging to the readers of the BG site. I love making people laugh (this blog should be ample proof of that), but I also love challenging the status quo and making folks think. Now to be sure, I don’t think that the ideas expressed in my piece are especially revolutionary or groundbreaking. But they are simple truths. And I think that the simplicity of our walk with God is what is most compelling and earthshaking about Christianity.

So there you go! Class, what have we learned today? Jeremy wrote a new article. Yay. Go read it and let him know your honest thoughts. Just make sure that your honesty is pure, unadulterated praise. And massive props to Jonathan Martin to being such a kickass friend, brother, mentor and pastor.

How Dost Thou Pee?

This guy is a true gem. Full of spiritual wisdom. Watch and we’ll return after with some thoughts to chew on…

What have we learned today class?

1. The NIV, NKJV and presumably all other translations were done by ghey males who piss sitting down.

2. Despite the fact that his translation of choice says that God is going to destroy “him that pisseth against the wall,” he still manages to reason that only true “men” stand up to pee. I guess even God’s wrath isn’t enough to make him sit.

3. Germany (land of my birth) apparently bans any and all standing pees. Cuz if the sign says you can’t stand, you can’t make up your own mind for yourself. You must blindly follow all sign-age with no thought or discernment.

I wonder what this guy thinks of self-cleaning toilets?

Hello Hyde…

Meet Jekyll.

Wow, I don’t like myself when I get angry. I suppose it could be a part of the journey as I delve into these spiritual disciplines, but my temper has really gotten the better of me lately. And it’s stupid stuff: traffic, Xbox game, forgetting my laptop at home (yes, that happened today).

I’m generally a fairly laid back dude. I’ve never been a huge fist fight before. It takes a lot for someone to push me over the edge, so I usually don’t get too pissed at people. But I’ve found myself getting mad at inanimate objects or situations out of my control. And I’m not sure why.

So I get furious at these things. And then I calm down and feel stupid for getting angry in the first place. It’s retarded. I’m retarded. And I’m tired of having this happen. Methinks that Mr. Hyde is going to be dying soon…
