Given the popularity of the last clip I posted, I figured the masses would be furious if they knew that I was holding out on them. So without any further ado, here’s another gem from the same folks. This one features a sweet rockin’ guitar solo or two…and some rather questionable lyrics. Something about Jesus being our seed and captain. But as LeVar Burton used to say on Reading Rainbow, you don’t have take my word for it…
hmmmm….wow…words yet again fail!
I can’t believe this was recently made and people are cheering and clapping!
I know! It boggles the mind. I especially love that the dude on the red guitar is acting all awesome and cool and yet he plays 4 or 5 chords the entire song. It’s the poor guy in the back on the black axe who’s actually playing the riffs.
Wow. I can’t even wrap my brain around this. Thank you for posting this on Youtube, my day – nay – my life is changed because of it’s awesomeness.
Any time. I do what I can to enliven people’s days and indeed their lives.
Sounds like the guy from REM a little. I think the boats are being prepared for a mass exodus back to Europe…
none of your videos play… odd.
What church is this? I have to know
It’s a group out of Ohio, called The Way International. Apparently they’re considered a cult, as some of their beliefs and interpretations of the Bible are pretty out there (the original sin of Adam and Eve was masturbation, not disobedience, for instance). If you google them, you’ll come across all sorts of sites discusses their belief system.
thanks, I will check them out. That is out there. And honestly one reason why Christians are judged poorly on the world stage.
Yeah, I agree. As funny as these clips are, it’s sad that groups like this have such bizarre theology and then true followers of Jesus are lumped together with them. But such is life I suppose. It will all get worked out in the end.
Jeremy, You can tell by watching these guys that something is wrong. BAD wrong. The Way International is just another Arian cult that denies the diety of Christ based on their “intensive research”. Thanks so much for posting this and for making a difference between true historical Christianity and freakish American cults.
You, Jeremy, are the absolute man. If ever I feel insecure about my abilities as a worship leader, you have provided me with video evidence that I am not the worst one out there.
Patrick – Yeah, I agree that something definitely seems off about this crew. I mean, I’ve seen PLENTY of incredibly cheesy Christian crap in my time…but this stuff is on the verge of freaky weird. Thankfully it’s also hilarious.
Jeremy – I too lead worship at our church (volunteering for the college group) and I’ve often doubted my own abilities as well. This is indeed proof that no matter how bad you might think you are, chances are good there’s someone else even worse.
The guy playing the red Telecaster sounds like he’s channelling Michael Sipe.
Also, is that Pervez Musharraf playing keyboard behind the singers?
I love these on every level… from the blue dresses, white hose, the gingerbread house in the background ( i am expecting Rumplestilskin to venture out any minute, or Hansel and Gretel ) , the video projected spirit dove that is dive bombing the stage. Really, this has made my day, maybe my life complete.
I would have been much more moved if there had been an accordion in the mix. I think that’s what was missing. Yea, an accordion and lederhosen.
Pam, I couldn’t agree more.
Is that Al Bundy on drums?
Goodness, you don’t know that “promised seed” and “captain of our salvation” are biblical terms? Let’s not mix theology and musical tastes. If you don’t like the style, fine, but making fun of folks doesn’t seem to be me to demonstrate the love of Christ. I’m also not sure I understand why offending others is cool.
Jesus made fun of people (Pharisees), and he is pretty cool.
speakingthetruth – Yes, I am quite aware that “promised seed” and “captain of our salvation” are Biblical terms…but that doesn’t make them good lyrics. So yes, I will mix theology and musical tastes. The entirety of the CCM world has been doing that for years. Why is it an issue now?
Additionally, “captain of our salvation” only shows up in the KJV, one of the worst translations of the original texts ever. Most people know that passage from Hebrews refers to Jesus as the author, perfecter or finisher of our faith. The way these guys are singing about it sounds like they’re inviting us on board a cruise on the Love Boat.
Finally, if you were to do any research at all about this group (a cult called The Way International), you’d find out that they have some utterly bizarre interpretations of the story of original sin and the Garden of Eden. This is taken from the Wikipedia page on them:
“Wierwille, in his class ‘Christian Family and Sex,’ taught the literal original sin of mankind was masturbation. He reasoned the Tree of Life from Genesis could be compared to verses where people were figuratively referred to as trees. He further compared the fruit of the tree of knowledge with the human genitalia, from whence human fruit, i.e, children, proceeds and came to the conclusion that Adam and Eve’s sin was a sexual sin, masturbation. He supported his view with the statement ‘they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons” in Genesis 3:7.’
Again, our “promised seed” might be a Biblical phrase, but coming from these guys, it seems rather suspect.
had a good laugh @ this one, then i googled twi. after 2 min of that, these videos took on a sinister tone-especially red telecaster man. thanks for sharing this, all day, it’s pushed me to think/read about The WORD and who He is…as well as breaking out my copy of the Westminster Confession of Faith!
(horselogic is a deviation from thinking TOO seriously, not much there-it is a work in progress. i should have a few new things up soon)
This belongs in the Wittenberg Door. Another one for the Gravedigger File.
i was born and raised in this cult, i didn’t that they were still kick’n. i left when i was 14 and im 20 now. and this is nothing! i think i still have some of the singing ladies of the way C.D.s still locked away in my basement hahaha if you liked that you’ll love this one! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlGesF2RFIc it is a spoof on the Athletes of the spirit, a show that the way did in the 80’s i used to watch that stuff all the time as a kid! hahaha o im so glad that is all behind me.
I really wanted to see the video!! why are they not playing?
