Yours truly is now the proud owner of the pictured Dashboard Ninjas, who I have lovingly named “Jubjub” and “Raja.” Jubjub would be the one on the left, executing a perfectly timed scissor kick-knuckle club sandwich combo, whilst Raja on the right parries with his patented leg lunge/fist of death-hand slap.

Look at them poised there, right on the brink of silent destruction. How little do they know, how unaware are they of their situation, their lot in life. Though lithe and supple, do their shrouded heads yet know, can they possibly conceive the cruel deck of injustice that this world has dealt them? Will they ever realize that they are tethered by the zephyr-like springs up their respective butts? How brave they must be, as they suffer on in ninja-perfected silence!

Stay strong, Jubjub and Raja! Do not go gently into that dark night!

Ah rock supergroups. Audioslave, Velvet Revolver, Rockstar Supernova (or whatever the crap they’re called)…the list goes on and on. Some, like the Traveling Wilburys or the Highwaymen, live up to the hype and manage to put out some decent music. Others simply sort of fade, with their various members perhaps getting bored or pissed (or both) and subsequently breaking up.

At any rate, the good folks at Tooth and Nail Records have seen fit to unleash a new mystery supergroup upon us, known only as Neon Horse. Those of you who are keeping score at home will remember that they (or more accurately, their Solid State compatriots) pulled this same thing on us back when Demon Hunter was first announced. That group was shrouded in mystery, complete with fuzzy pictures of band members in dark clothes and bandannas wrapped around their faces. It was later revealed that the group was a project of the Clark brothers (Training for Utopia) and Jesse Sprinkle (Poor Old Lu), among others. At the time, the whole thing came off a little cheesy, though Demon Hunter has since put out three albums of fairly solid hardcore quality.

Which brings us to Neon Horse. There’s a new album trailer out, which touts that the various members bring the combined experience of 20 L.A.-based bands. There’s no indication who’s in the band, save for rumors that I’ve heard concerning the presence of one Senor Mark Salomon. Given the timing of the album’s release date (May  8th) and the recent announcement of Stavesacre’s demise, could it be that Mark’s already found a new project? I have to admit that my curiosity about the band is due entirely to this possibility. I haven’t heard enough of the music to make a final judgment, though the style of the animation in this trailer sadly screams of ripping off the Gorillaz. The secondary vocals in this clip do sound like Mark, though with a completely different delivery than The Crucified, Stavesacre, or Outer Circle (or Native Son for that matter).

So who knows? Will Neon Horse be put out to pasture early? Or will they run hard through that dark night, pounding out new awesomeness with each hoof track? Check out the album trailer here.
(Speaking of which, when the H did albums start getting “trailers?” Whatever happened to simply leaking a couple of tracks? Unless there’s some movie or music video tie-in, this doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. Sorta like Tom Cruise’s beliefs. ZING!)

I think we can all chalk this up to the parental watchdog groups out there. Thanks moms and dads. Thanks a ton.
