One of the best things about my job is that I am surrounded by a bunch of amazing people. My coworkers are an awesome and hilarious bunch. Our lunch conversations often leave me in stitches…and today was no different. We’re not all the same age in our department, but our ages and media knowledge are close enough that we all usually stumbled across the same stuff at different points in our lives. We somehow got on the topic of old Christian children’s entertainment. Psalty the Songbook, Superbook, Patch the Pirate…the list goes on. I tracked down a bunch of clips and shared them with the group. I figured some of the House readers might get a kick out of this peek into my childhood.

First up, here’s a Psalty video. I remember listening to this song constantly on a tape, but this is first time I’ve seen it on video. Something about a dog with giraffe appendages is slightly disconcerting.

Next, we travel to the magical place where Jesus and anime meet. Yes, I’m talking about that awesome amalgam, Superbook. I loved this show growing up…though at the time I had no idea what anime was and I wondered constantly about why all the characters had no noses and mouths that were either coin slots or massive chasms of teeth.

I’m not sure if Patch the Pirate ever did any TV shows or videos, but I had a ton of his tapes and a record or two (Patch the Pirate Goes to Space!!!). So this is one of Ron Hamilton, the man behind the Patch, singing one of his songs.

Remember McGee and Me? I sure do. I loved this junk. So much fun…

Anyone ever watch Davey and Goliath? I thought this was the jam back in the day. Gotta love stop-motion animation.

Finally, here’s a random clip from The Wiz. We watched this on laserdisc constantly when I was going up. I loved it then. I love it now. No apologies. Oh for the days when Michael Jackson had a nose and was still black.

PS: I looked high and low for another show that I watched growing up, but I couldn’t find any clips anywhere. You guys remember The Gospel Bill Show? Another terrific bit of nostalgia for me. And here’s a fun fact: April’s youth pastor (and the pastor who married us) is now the Associate Pastor at Church On The Move, Willie George’s (Gospel Bill himself) massive church out in Tulsa, OK. Small world, eh?

I started a new series over at my workplace’s main site entitled Imago Dei. At it’s most basic, it’s a series based on looking at the interaction of art/media/culture and faith. My good buddy and coworker Joe Bauldoff (a graphic designer extraordinaire) did the series logo, as well as the artwork for the first article. I had a chance to see Iron Man at an advance screening on Tuesday…and let me tell you, it’s a blast of a film. I hope I can take April to see it this weekend.

It made my creative juices flow (scary thought, I know) and it spawned the idea of doing a series of Imago Dei. So if you so desire, check out the Iron Man article here. And actually, stop by his blog and his portfolio to see more of his talent on display. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll wish you were as awesome as he is.

This looks beautiful. I have so much respect for these guys. I hope this is eventually released.

Wow. This is so unspeakably cool. I have been jazzed about The Dark Knight for a while now and this poster succeeds in upping my anticipation that much more. I love the concept of a world without rules and the dangers inherent in such a change. It fits perfectly with the darkness of the Batman character and I hope that the film is able to deliver on the unhinged nature of things to which this seems to allude.

Plus that burning Bat symbol is simply and utterly kickass.

Oh happy day! He Is Legend has posted four brand spankin’ new demos over on their MySpace page. And they’re frickin’ awesome. I love these guys and I can’t wait for their latest hottness. Suck Out The Poison was one killer album. It’ll be sweet to see where they go musically after that one…and if these demos are any indication, they’ve got another winner on their hands.

Apparently this is some sort of internal Microsoft rah-rah rally the troops video about Vista and SP1. If this thing leaked out, how in the H do they expect us to trust their security for operating systems? And furthermore, I’m not even a fan of The Boss, but I know enough to know that this is a huge affront to him and his art. This just hurts my brain…
